Janet Bennett, M.Ed., Speech/Language Pathologist, Owner |

Janet is owner of Asheville Speech Associates and President of IJustWantToSleep, Inc. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Master's Degree in Education and specializes in the treatment of tongue thrust and oral motor dysfunctions.

Janet enjoys supporting the speech pathologists at Asheville Speech Associates and helping them realize and grow in areas of personal interest in the field of speech pathology.

Weight lifting, reading and growing perennial gardens are among her favorite hobbies.


Aisha Al-Majed, M.A., CCC-SLP |
Reading Program Coordinator

Aisha has a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences/Disorders and a Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech Pathology from the University of Florida. Her areas of expertise include reading disorders/Dyslexia, feeding issues/Dysphagia, and Resonate Disorders/VPI. She enjoys reading and running. Aisha speaks Arabic and English.


Michelle Duncan, M.S., CCC-SLP |

Speech TherapyMichelle attended Western Carolina University where she received a Master of Science. She has experience with Early Intervention, and Preschool Language. Michelle likes to travel and read and spend time with her husband and two dogs.

 


Sarah Henry, M.A., CCC-SLP |

 Whitney HerrickSarah earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Auburn University and her Master of Arts in Speech Pathology from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She has experience treating language, articulation, and pragmatics. Sarah's hobbies include running, writing, and dance.


Kristen Kershaw, M.Ed., CCC-SLP |

KershawKristen received her Master of Education from the University of Virginia. She has experience in Language Development, Aural Habilitation, Developmental and acquired Apraxia of speech, Hyperfunctional Voice , and Reading/Phonological Processing, stroke, TBI, Adult and Pediatric Feeding/Dysphagia, Stuttering, Dysarthria, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Childhood Articulation Disorders. Kristen loves knitting, cooking, reading, and gardening. Kristen speaks French, Russian, and American Sign Language in addition to English.

Chet McKee, M.S., CCC-SLP |
Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist

McKeeChet received his Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Western Carolina University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University. He holds the designation of Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist / Listening and Spoken Language Specialist from the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf. He has an extensive background as a therapist for hearing impaired children and over 15 years experience working with cochlear implant recipients. Chet has been an affiliate faculty member at Western Carolina University since 1999.

Chet enjoys mountain biking and motorcycling in his spare time.

Clinical Fellow Supervisor

MeadowsMelodie received her Master of Science in Communication Disorders from Western Carolina University. She has practiced as a speech-language pathologist for over fifteen years and particularly enjoys working with the preschool population addressing articulation/phonological processing disorders and language disorders. Melodie is the proud mother of Tara.


Ann Marie Miller, M.A., CCC-SLP |

KershawAnn Marie graduated with a Master of Arts from Appalachian State University in 2000. She has experience with treating dysphagia, Aphasia, feeding disorders, and artculation/langauge. Ann Maries enjoys yoga and spending time outdoors and time with her family. She is a Certified Infant Toddler and Family Specialist in North Carolina. Ann Marie speaks Spanish and English.

Wilma Morris, Practice Manager |

MorrisWilma enjoys the ability to use her administrative experience in an environment of helping others.

"My greatest pleasures come from interacting with my family and people in the practice. The mountains also bring to me interest in the colors of the sky and mountains, and a spiritural depth not otherwise encountered. I also enjoy reading primarily non-fiction and discussing current events.

Speech TherapyChristy earned a Master of Science in Communication Disorders from University of Louisiana Lafayette. Her Bachelor fo Science was receive from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Christy has experience with Cognitive/language therapy with adults and children; experience treating dysphagia, aphasia, voice disorders, dysarthria, apraxia, and developmental articulation and language delay. In her spare time, Christy enjoys walking her dog and spending time with her 4-year-old daughter.

Shannon Rose , M.A., CCC-SLP |

Speech TherapyShannon received her Master of Arts in Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern State University in Louisiana. She has 26 years of experience in the schools, private practice, and state programs with children of all ages. She sees children from ages 18 months to 15 years and is interested in Autism, apraxia, hearing impairment, and langauge delay. In her free time, Shannon enjoys gardening, hiking, and kayaking. Shannon speaks Spanish and English.

Dawn Sanderson , M.A., CCC-SLP |

Dawn HillDawn has a Master of Arts in Communication Disorders from Appalachian State University. She has experience in cochlear implants, language disorders, articulation disorders, Autism, Apraxia, Swallowing Disorders, and Oral-Motor skills. Dawn likes to hike and stay fit by dancing. She also enjoys writing. Dawn speaks American Sign Language and English.

 


Christi Stansell, CF-SLP, MSP |

StansellChristi Moore graduated form the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She received her Master's of Speech Pathology and has experience with Speech and language delay in both children and adults, Autism, Stroke rehabilitation, Traumatic Brain Injury, Dysphagia and feeding. In her spare time, Christi enjoys traveling, shopping and being outdoors. She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Speech TherapyJulie has a Bachelor's Degree and Master of Arts in Communication Disorders from Appalachian State University in North Carolina. Her areas of expertise include Articulation/Phonology and Language. Julie enjoys walking and jogging with her dog.

Speech TherapyJennifer has a Master of Arts from Appalachian State University in Speech and Language Pathology. She has experience with articulation/phonology, Language (Receptive and Expressive Disorders) and Phonetic Awareness. In her free time, Jennifer likes to spend time with her family, travel, and ski.

We are a group of speech pathologists providing outpatient services for pediatric and adult clients in our office, their homes, or day care centers. We are established to accept Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Crescent, Medcost, Children's Developmental Services, and HealthChoice.

Speech & language pathologists help prevent, identify, evaluate and treat communication disorders.

Asheville Speech Associates provides quality speech therapy services to children and adults. We are a group of dedicated licensed pathologists who each hold a Master 's Degree and have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)  from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and associated organizations.

Our philosophy is and will always be to help individuals maximize their functional abilities. This is accomplished by clearly defining goals and objectives and establishing a care plan specific to each client's needs and those of their families.

Asheville Speech Associates supports a variety of settings: outpatient, day care centers, home health and schools. We provide services for Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Haywood and Transylvania counties in North Carolina. Our therapists will go to the client, if necessary, to provide flexible scheduling for all involved in the treatment program.
